Even if you have never shot a shotgun before, you will be able to
safely handle, shoot, clean, and store a shotgun after you complete this course. If you are already familiar with shotguns,
this course can help you become a more
accurate and safer shotgun owner.
Everything is provided in this class. Shotguns, ammunition, cleaning
supplies, and even eye and ear protection. You do not need to own a shotgun to take this course. In fact, this
class teaches you how to choose your first shotgun. If you already own
a shotgun, you are welcome to use it both during the classroom and range session.
Please Note: Absolutely NO live ammunition is allowed in the classroom at any time.

NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting Course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for the safe and proper use of a shotgun in shooting a moving target. This course
is divided into two sessions). The first day is classroom based with
instruction, demonstrations, participation, and practical hands-on
activities. This first day typically runs about 6-8 hours. The
second day you will spend on the range applying your newly learned
Students learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development.
This course is thorough, low-pressure, low-stress, and fun. You can ask questions
at any time! The class size is a maximum student/instructor ratio of 4:1 in the classroom, and 2:1 on the range to
ensure you get personalized, focused attention as your knowledge and
skills grow. You will never be asked to do anything that
you are uncomfortable doing. You learn at your pace.
Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.
Prerequisites for NRA Basic shotgun
Although there are no pre-requisites or age restrictions for the
course, a general minimum age suggestion would be 12 years old. This
may vary significantly depending upon the specific student's maturity
level and attention span.
Classroom Session: Located in Keystone
Range Session: Summit County Shooting Range
Classroom Session: June 1 or Sept. 7, 2019 from 8:30 AM to about 4:00 PM.
Range Session: Approx. 2 hours on the following Sunday at the Summit County Shooting Range. The specific time will be determined in class on Saturday.
The total cost is $50 payable to the "Summit Range Association" on the first day of class (cash or check).
